North Node

The North Node points to the karmic lessons and growth areas you're meant to explore in this life.

The North Node (also called the True Node or Dragon's Head) is not a physical body but a mathematical point where the Moon's orbit crosses the ecliptic. In astrology, it represents the direction of personal growth, the lessons you came here to learn, and the qualities you need to develop to feel fulfilled. It sits directly opposite the South Node, which points to inherited talents and comfort zones.

How it works

In your natal chart, the North Node is always in a specific zodiac sign and house. Its sign shows the type of energy you're meant to cultivate (e.g., Aries North Node encourages independence and courage), while its house reveals the area of life where that growth happens (e.g., 7th house North Node points to relationships). The North Node's aspects to other planets can modify how easily or intensely you feel its pull. For example, a North Node trine Jupiter may make growth feel natural, while a square to Saturn can feel like a heavy lesson.

In practice

When reading the North Node, avoid treating it as a fixed destiny. Instead, see it as a compass: the South Node shows where you're already skilled (and may get stuck), while the North Node invites you to stretch beyond that. In a reading, notice if you feel resistance to the North Node's energy — that's often a sign you're clinging to the South Node's comfort. Transits to the North Node (especially from Saturn or Jupiter) can mark pivotal moments of growth.
