Horary Astrology

A branch of astrology that answers a specific question by casting a chart for the moment the question is asked.

Horary astrology is a specialized branch of astrology used to answer a specific question. Instead of interpreting a birth chart, the astrologer casts a chart for the exact moment the question is clearly understood and asked. The chart is then read like a map: the house and planet ruling the matter reveal the answer.

How it works

To cast a horary chart, you need the precise time and location when the question is posed. The rising sign sets the stage, and the planet ruling that sign becomes the "querent" (the person asking). The house relevant to the question (e.g., the 7th house for relationships) points to the "quesited" (the thing asked about). The astrologer examines aspects, planetary dignity, and house rulerships to determine if the outcome is favorable, delayed, or unlikely.

In practice

Horary is best for clear, yes/no questions with a genuine need. For example, "Will I get the job?" focuses on the 10th house (career). If the ruler of the 10th is well-aspected by the ruler of the 1st, the answer leans yes. Timing can also be read: fast-moving planets (Moon, Mercury) suggest quick results; slow ones (Saturn) indicate delays. It's a practical tool for decision-making, not fortune-telling.
