Crescent Moon

A lunar phase occurring a few days after the New Moon, when a thin sliver of the Moon becomes visible.

The Crescent Moon is a lunar phase that occurs about 3–4 days after the New Moon. During this phase, a thin, curved sliver of the Moon becomes visible in the western sky just after sunset. In astrology, the Crescent Moon represents the initial spark of intention and the first tangible steps toward a new goal.

How it works

In a natal chart, the Crescent Moon is not a standard aspect or placement but rather a phase of the Moon's cycle. It is determined by the angular distance between the Sun and the Moon: when the Moon is 45–90 degrees ahead of the Sun, it is in the Crescent phase. This phase is part of the eight-phase lunar cycle and is considered a "growth" phase, emphasizing action and forward momentum. People born under a Crescent Moon are often seen as initiators who are eager to turn ideas into reality.

In practice

When interpreting a Crescent Moon in a birth chart, look at the sign and house of the Moon. This placement suggests a personality that is driven to start new projects and embrace challenges. The Crescent Moon person may feel a strong urge to push boundaries and explore uncharted territory. In a reading, this phase indicates a time of building momentum after a period of rest or planning. It encourages taking concrete steps rather than waiting for perfect conditions.
