Gibbous Moon

A phase between the First Quarter and Full Moon, when the Moon is more than half but not fully illuminated.

The Gibbous Moon is the lunar phase that occurs between the First Quarter and the Full Moon. During this phase, the Moon appears more than half illuminated but not yet fully lit. In astrology, it represents a period of refinement, analysis, and preparation before culmination.

How it works

In a natal chart, the Gibbous Moon phase is determined by the angular distance between the Sun and the Moon, which falls between 135° and 180°. People born under a Gibbous Moon are often driven to perfect their ideas and skills. They have a strong desire to learn, analyze, and improve. This phase suggests a personality that is detail-oriented, critical, and always seeking to refine what they have started.

In practice

When you encounter a Gibbous Moon in a chart, it often points to a person who thrives on research and preparation. They may feel a constant urge to tweak and adjust until something is just right. In a transit reading, a Gibbous Moon can signal a time to polish your work, gather more information, or fine-tune your plans before the Full Moon brings a climax. It's a phase of active growth and adjustment.
