Venus Retrograde

A period when Venus appears to move backward in the sky, often prompting reflection on love, values, and relationships.

Venus Retrograde occurs when the planet Venus appears to move backward in its orbit from our perspective on Earth. In astrology, this period—lasting about 40–45 days every 18 months—is a time to review and reassess matters of the heart, relationships, finances, and personal values. Rather than a time to start new romantic or financial ventures, it invites introspection and re-evaluation.

How it works

In a natal chart, Venus rules love, beauty, money, and what we value. When Venus is retrograde by transit, its themes turn inward. You might feel drawn to past relationships, unfinished creative projects, or old spending habits. Astrologically, this is a chance to slow down and reflect on what truly matters. The retrograde begins when Venus appears to slow down and station, then moves backward through the zodiac, eventually stationing direct again. The entire cycle includes a pre-shadow and post-shadow period, extending the reflective energy.

In practice

During Venus Retrograde, it's wise to avoid major commitments like engagements, marriages, or large purchases. Instead, use the time to reconnect with yourself: journal about your relationship patterns, revisit a hobby you loved, or clear out old finances. If an ex reappears, consider whether it's a genuine second chance or a lesson you already learned. The key is to reflect, not react. After Venus goes direct, you'll have clarity to move forward with renewed values.
