Waxing Moon
The Waxing Moon is the period from new moon to full moon when the moon's visible surface grows larger each night.
The Waxing Moon is the phase of the lunar cycle between the new moon and the full moon, during which the illuminated portion of the moon as seen from Earth increases each night. In astrology, this period is associated with growth, building momentum, and outward expression. It represents a time of action, expansion, and moving from intention (new moon) toward manifestation (full moon).
How it works
In a natal chart, the Moon's phase is determined by the angular relationship between the Sun and the Moon. A Waxing Moon occurs when the Moon is between 0° and 180° ahead of the Sun (i.e., the Moon is in the 1st through 3rd quarters). The exact degree of the Moon's phase can be calculated from the Sun-Moon angle. For example, a Moon at 45° ahead of the Sun is a Waxing Crescent, while at 135° it is a Waxing Gibbous. The Waxing Moon is often considered a more extroverted, outward-focused energy compared to the Waning Moon.
In practice
When interpreting a natal Waxing Moon, astrologers look at the degree and house placement to understand how the native initiates and builds projects. People with a Waxing Moon tend to be proactive, eager to start new things, and may feel a natural rhythm of growth and expansion in their emotional life. In transit, the Waxing Moon period (from new to full) is ideal for taking action, starting new ventures, and pushing forward with plans. It's a time of increasing energy and visibility.
