Birth Chart

A snapshot of the sky at your exact moment of birth, mapping planets, signs, houses, and aspects.

A birth chart (also called a natal chart) is a map of the sky at the exact moment and place you were born. It shows where each planet, the Sun, and the Moon were located relative to Earth, divided into twelve segments called houses. Astrologers use this snapshot to explore personality traits, life themes, and timing patterns.

How it works

To calculate a birth chart, you need your birth date, exact time, and location. The chart is a 360-degree wheel divided into 12 houses, each representing a different area of life (e.g., career, relationships, home). The planets are placed in signs and houses based on their positions at your birth. The angles — especially the Ascendant (rising sign) and Midheaven (MC) — define the chart's orientation. Aspects (angles between planets) reveal how the planetary energies interact, such as a harmonious trine or a challenging square.

In practice

When reading a birth chart, start with the "Big Three": Sun (core identity), Moon (emotions), and Ascendant (outer personality). Then look at the planet ruling your Ascendant (the chart ruler) — it often points to a major life focus. Notice which houses are emphasized (e.g., many planets in the 10th house suggest a strong career theme). Aspects like a tight conjunction or opposition can indicate areas of tension or talent. A birth chart is not a fixed destiny — it's a tool for self-reflection and understanding your natural tendencies.
