Horoscope
A horoscope is a map of the sky at a specific moment, used in astrology to interpret personality and life themes.
A horoscope is a map of the celestial bodies—planets, Sun, Moon, and other points—as seen from a specific location on Earth at a given time. In personal astrology, the most common horoscope is the natal chart, which is calculated for the moment of a person's birth. It shows the positions of the planets in the zodiac signs and houses, forming the basis for interpretation of character, strengths, challenges, and life themes.
How it works
To create a horoscope, an astrologer needs the exact date, time, and place of the event (usually birth). Using this data, they calculate the positions of the Sun, Moon, and planets in the zodiac and their placement in the twelve houses. The chart is a 360-degree circle divided into twelve segments (houses), each representing a different area of life, such as self, money, communication, home, relationships, and career. The signs and aspects (angles between planets) add layers of meaning. For example, a Sun in Leo in the 10th house might suggest a person who shines in their career.
In practice
When you read a horoscope, you're looking at a symbolic snapshot. A daily horoscope, for instance, is based on the current sky and how it interacts with your birth chart. Instead of predicting specific events, it highlights themes—like a focus on communication when Mercury is active. In a natal chart reading, the horoscope reveals tendencies and potentials, not fixed outcomes. Astrologers use it as a tool for self-reflection, helping people understand patterns and make conscious choices.
