Venus Sign Calculator: how you love

Your Venus sign is the zodiac sign Venus occupied when you were born. It describes your love style: what attracts you, how you show affection and what makes you feel valued, in romance and in friendship. Enter your birth date and city to find it; Venus rarely changes sign within a day, so a birth time is optional.

Why your Venus sign is close to your Sun sign

Seen from Earth, Venus never strays more than about 47 degrees from the Sun. So your Venus sign is always your Sun sign or one of the two signs on either side of it. A Gemini Sun, for example, can only have Venus in Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer or Leo.

Venus usually spends four to five weeks in a sign. Roughly every 18 months it turns retrograde and can stay in one sign for about four months, which is why many people born in the same season share a Venus sign.

Venus in each of the 12 signs

How each Venus sign tends to attract, show affection and feel valued. Your Venus's house and aspects, in the full chart, make it personal.

Venus in Aries

Fire

Loves boldly, enjoys the chase

Venus in Aries falls for people fast and shows it. You like directness, spark and a little challenge, and you'd rather pursue than wait. Boredom kills attraction for you. In relationships you need someone with their own fire who won't make you guess. Keeping the spark alive after the chase is the quiet skill to build.

Venus in Taurus

Earth

Loyal, sensual, steady affection

Venus is at home in Taurus. You love through presence, touch, good meals and reliability, and you take your time before committing. Once you do, you're deeply loyal. Beauty and comfort matter, in your home and in your partner. Possessiveness can creep in when you feel insecure; trust grows through consistency, which you're good at.

Venus in Gemini

Air

Flirts with words, needs mental spark

With Venus in Gemini, attraction starts in conversation. Wit, banter and shared curiosity draw you in more than grand gestures. You enjoy variety and keep things light and playful. You need a partner who can talk about anything and give you room. Depth comes when you let a connection grow past the interesting-new-person stage.

Venus in Cancer

Water

Tender, nurturing, needs safety

Venus in Cancer loves by caring. You show affection by looking after people, remembering what they need and creating a cosy shared space. You open up slowly and need to feel emotionally safe first. Rejection can hit hard, so you may hold back. Saying what you need, rather than hoping it's noticed, makes love easier.

Venus in Leo

Fire

Generous, romantic, wholehearted

Venus in Leo loves with warmth and flair. You enjoy romance, celebration and making your person feel special, and you want the same devotion back. You need to be adored and admired, not taken for granted. Generosity is your love language, and a partner who appreciates you openly brings out your most loyal, playful side.

Venus in Virgo

Earth

Shows love through care and small acts

Venus in Virgo expresses affection in practical ways: fixing, helping, noticing. You're discerning about who you let close and attracted to competence and sincerity. Grand declarations may feel awkward; consistent effort means more. You can be critical of yourself and others in love. Accepting imperfect people, yourself included, is how this Venus softens.

Venus in Libra

Air

Partnership-minded, loves harmony

Venus is at home in Libra. You're naturally romantic, considerate and drawn to balanced, fair partnerships. Aesthetics matter, and you show love through thoughtfulness and good manners. You're good at seeing your partner's side. The challenge is avoiding conflict so long that resentment builds; a little honest friction keeps love real.

Venus in Scorpio

Water

All in, intense, deeply loyal

Venus in Scorpio loves with total commitment. You're drawn to depth, chemistry and emotional honesty, and casual connections rarely satisfy you. Trust is everything; once broken, it's hard to rebuild, so you may test people first. When you feel safe you're fiercely loyal and love transforms you both. Jealousy eases when you say your fears out loud.

Venus in Sagittarius

Fire

Adventurous, honest, needs freedom

Venus in Sagittarius loves through shared adventures, ideas and laughter. You're attracted to people who expand your world, and you need plenty of space even in a committed relationship. Honesty is non-negotiable, sometimes delivered bluntly. Routine can feel like a trap; commitment works when it feels like a journey you're choosing together.

Venus in Capricorn

Earth

Serious, loyal, builds love to last

Venus in Capricorn takes love seriously. You're attracted to maturity, ambition and reliability, and you show affection by showing up, year after year. You may seem reserved early on and open up slowly. Security matters to you. Letting yourself be playful and vulnerable makes your dependable kind of love even warmer.

Venus in Aquarius

Air

Friendship first, values freedom

Venus in Aquarius loves through friendship and shared ideals. You're drawn to unusual, independent people and need room to be yourself in a relationship. You may show affection in unconventional ways and dislike clingy dynamics, yet you're loyal once committed. Letting emotional closeness in, not just intellectual connection, deepens your bonds.

Venus in Pisces

Water

Romantic, compassionate, devoted

Venus in Pisces loves with empathy and imagination. You're romantic, forgiving and attuned to your partner's feelings, sometimes before they are. You may idealise people and overlook red flags. Art, music and a sense of deeper connection feed your love life. Healthy boundaries keep your devotion from turning into self-sacrifice.

How we calculate your Venus sign

We compute the positions of Venus and the Earth around the Sun with the VSOP87 planetary theory, convert them into where Venus appeared from Earth at your birth, and correct for nutation to get its tropical zodiac longitude. VSOP87 is far more precise than the sign needs, so the degree you see is meaningful too.

We also check Venus's motion around your birth moment to tell you whether it was retrograde. Same deterministic engine as every Astraly chart: identical input, identical result.

Don't know your birth time?

Venus moves about one degree a day at most, so for nearly every birth date its sign is the same from midnight to midnight. On the few days a year when Venus changes sign, we scan your whole birth day and show both signs with the exact local time of the switch.

If that happens and you don't know your birth time, read both descriptions; one usually fits better. Your birth time does matter for the house Venus falls in, which the full chart shows.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find my Venus sign?

Enter your birth date and city (and time, if you know it) in the calculator above. You'll get your Venus sign and exact degree instantly, free and without signing up.

What does my Venus sign say about love?

It describes your style: what you find attractive, how you flirt and show affection, what you value in a partner and what makes you feel appreciated. It's a tendency, not a script; your Moon, Mars and seventh house add to the picture.

Do I need my birth time to find my Venus sign?

Usually not. Venus changes sign only every few weeks, so the date is enough. If Venus changed sign on your birthday, the calculator shows both options and the time of the switch.

What does Venus retrograde in a birth chart mean?

About 7% of people are born with Venus retrograde. Astrologers often read it as a more inward, reflective relationship with love and self-worth: values worked out through experience rather than taken from others. It isn't a bad placement.

Can I check compatibility with Venus signs?

Comparing Venus signs is a good start: two people whose Venus signs share an element often enjoy love in similar ways. Real synastry also compares your Venus with the other person's Mars, Moon and Sun, which our compatibility tool calculates from both charts.

Why is my Venus sign the same as my Sun sign?

It's very common. Venus is never far from the Sun, so a large share of people have both in the same sign. It means your love style is an especially direct expression of who you are.

Venus shows how you love. Your chart shows who you love well.
