What is a natal chart
It's a map of the sky for the exact moment and place you were born: where the Sun, Moon and planets stood relative to the horizon. Astrologers read it as a map of character — strengths, inner contradictions, how you love, work and handle stress.
Sun, Moon and Rising
The Sun is your core — what you live for. The Moon is your emotions and what makes you feel safe. The Rising sign (Ascendant) is how you come across and meet the new. Together these three explain far more than a single zodiac sign.
Why birth time matters
The Ascendant changes roughly every two hours and the houses even faster. Without an exact time the chart is incomplete: the planets' signs are right, but the Ascendant and life areas (houses) aren't. Your birth time is usually on your birth certificate.

What if I don't know my birth time?
You can still build the chart: the planets' signs will be correct. The Ascendant and houses stay unknown, and the Moon may be off by a few degrees.
How accurate is it?
Planet positions are computed from the VSOP87 astronomical ephemerides to under one arcminute. The Ascendant and houses depend on your birth time, so the more exact the time, the more exact they are.
