Seventh House

The Seventh House governs partnerships, marriage, contracts, and open enemies in astrology.

The Seventh House is one of the four angular houses in astrology, traditionally associated with partnerships of all kinds—romantic, business, and contractual. It represents the 'other' in your life: your spouse, long-term partner, close collaborators, and even open adversaries. While the First House defines the self, the Seventh House defines the one-to-one relationship dynamic.

How it works

In a natal chart, the Seventh House sits opposite the First House, beginning at the Descendant (the western horizon at your birth time). Planets placed here color your approach to relationships. For example, Venus in the Seventh House often indicates a harmonious, loving partnership style, while Saturn here may suggest delays or lessons in commitment. The sign on the cusp (the Descendant) also matters: Aries Descendant attracts assertive partners, while Libra Descendant seeks balance and fairness.

In practice

When reading a chart, the Seventh House reveals what you seek in a partner and how you behave in close relationships. If you have many planets here, relationships are a major life theme. Transits to this house can signal new partnerships, contract negotiations, or conflicts with others. For compatibility work, astrologers compare Seventh Houses in synastry to see how two people approach commitment.
