Conjunction

A conjunction occurs when two planets are close together in the same zodiac sign, blending their energies into a single powerful focus.

A conjunction is an aspect formed when two planets are within a few degrees of each other in the same zodiac sign. In a birth chart, this alignment merges the energies of the planets involved, creating a concentrated focal point in the personality. The closer the orb (typically 0–8°), the stronger the blend. Conjunctions are considered the most potent aspect because they combine rather than oppose or challenge.

How it works

In a natal chart, a conjunction is read by looking at the two planets and the sign they occupy. For example, a Sun-Mars conjunction in Aries intensifies assertiveness, drive, and initiative. The sign colors the expression, while the planets' natures mix. If the conjunction involves a personal planet (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars) and an outer planet (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto), the outer planet's generational influence is personalized. Conjunctions can also involve the Ascendant or Midheaven, blending planetary traits with the self-image or career path.

In practice

When you see a conjunction in a chart, ask: What are the two planets, and what do they represent? A Venus-Mercury conjunction suggests a mind that thinks in terms of beauty and harmony. A Moon-Saturn conjunction can indicate emotional restraint or a serious inner world. Conjunctions are not inherently good or bad — they simply show where energy is concentrated. In synastry, a conjunction between one person's planet and another's can create a strong bond or intense focus. For a deeper look at your own chart, build your chart on Astraly.
