Semi-Sextile

A 30-degree aspect between planets, indicating a subtle connection that often requires conscious effort to integrate.

A semi-sextile is an aspect formed when two planets are approximately 30 degrees apart (with an orb of about 1–2 degrees). It is considered a minor aspect, often associated with a gentle, sometimes awkward connection that nudges the planets to work together, but not as smoothly as a sextile or trine.

How it works

In a natal chart, a semi-sextile links signs that are next to each other (e.g., Aries and Taurus). These signs share no common element or modality, so their energies are fundamentally different. The aspect creates a subtle tension or a sense of "almost but not quite" alignment. For example, a semi-sextile between Mercury in Aries (quick, impulsive thinking) and Venus in Taurus (steady, sensual values) might manifest as a person who blurts out romantic ideas but then takes time to actually appreciate them.

In practice

When you encounter a semi-sextile in a reading, look for a quality of "adjustment" or "fine-tuning." The planets involved may not naturally cooperate, but with awareness, their energies can complement each other. For instance, a Sun semi-sextile Moon might indicate a slight disconnect between one's core identity and emotional needs, requiring conscious effort to harmonize. The aspect often shows up in areas where small, consistent efforts yield gradual growth.
