Davison Chart

A Davison Chart is a composite chart calculated by taking the midpoint of time and space between two people, revealing the nature of their relationship.

A Davison Chart is a specialized astrological chart used to analyze a relationship between two people. Unlike a standard composite chart, which averages the planetary positions, the Davison Chart is calculated by finding the midpoint of the birth times and locations of the two individuals, then casting a new chart for that exact time and place. This chart represents the relationship itself as a third entity, showing its unique energy, purpose, and evolution.

How it works

To create a Davison Chart, you take the midpoint between the two birth dates and times, and the midpoint between their birth locations (latitude and longitude). Then you calculate a natal chart for that combined time and place. The resulting chart has its own Sun, Moon, Ascendant, and planetary placements, which describe the relationship's core identity, emotional tone, and dynamics. For example, the Davison Sun sign indicates the relationship's main focus and vitality, while the Davison Moon reveals its emotional needs and habits.

In practice

When reading a Davison Chart, you look at it as if it were a person—the relationship itself. Strong aspects between planets can show areas of harmony or tension. For instance, a Venus-Mars conjunction in the Davison Chart might indicate passionate chemistry, while a Saturn-Moon square could suggest emotional restrictions or karmic lessons. This chart is especially useful for long-term partnerships, business collaborations, or family bonds, as it highlights the relationship's strengths and challenges beyond individual personalities.
