Synastry

Synastry compares two birth charts to reveal relationship dynamics, strengths, and challenges.

Synastry is the astrological art of comparing two natal charts to understand the dynamics between two people. By overlaying one person's planets onto another's houses and examining the aspects (angles) between their planets, synastry reveals areas of harmony, tension, attraction, and growth. It's a tool for exploring romantic partnerships, friendships, family bonds, and even professional relationships.

How it works

In a synastry reading, astrologers look at how each person's planets interact with the other's chart. For example, if your Venus falls in your partner's 7th House of partnership, it often indicates a strong romantic pull. Aspects matter too: a Moon-Moon trine suggests emotional ease, while a Mars-Saturn square might point to frustration or power struggles. The houses where planets land also show which life areas are activated—your Sun in their 10th House could mean they inspire your career ambitions.

In practice

When you use synastry, focus on the personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars) and the angles (Ascendant, Midheaven). Harmonious aspects (trines, sextiles) feel easy; challenging ones (squares, oppositions) create friction that can lead to growth. The goal isn't to find a "perfect" match—every relationship has both. Instead, synastry helps you understand each other's needs and patterns. For instance, a Moon square Mercury might mean you express emotions differently, requiring patience in communication.
