Jupiter

Jupiter is the planet of expansion, luck, and wisdom in astrology, ruling Sagittarius and the 9th house.

Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system and in astrology represents expansion, abundance, optimism, and higher learning. Known as the "Great Benefic," it governs growth in all forms—intellectual, spiritual, and material. Jupiter rules Sagittarius and the 9th house, and is exalted in Cancer.

How it works

In a natal chart, Jupiter's sign and house show where you naturally attract good fortune, feel generous, and seek meaning. For example, Jupiter in the 2nd house may indicate financial luck or a talent for accumulating resources, while Jupiter in the 9th house points to a love of travel and philosophy. Aspects to Jupiter can amplify or challenge its energy: a trine from Venus brings ease in relationships, while a square from Saturn may require patience to see rewards.

In practice

When interpreting Jupiter, consider its condition: dignity (in its own sign or exaltation) strengthens its positive effects; debility (in fall or detriment) may manifest as overindulgence or misplaced optimism. Jupiter transits often mark periods of growth, opportunity, and expansion. For example, Jupiter entering your 1st house can bring a year of personal confidence and new beginnings.
