Vertex

The Vertex is a sensitive point in a natal chart, often linked to fated encounters and turning points.

The Vertex is a calculated point in a natal chart, not a planet or celestial body. It represents where the ecliptic intersects the prime vertical, a great circle passing through the east and west points of the horizon. In astrology, the Vertex is associated with fated encounters, karmic relationships, and pivotal life events that feel destined or beyond your control.

How it works

The Vertex appears in the western hemisphere of your chart, typically in the 5th, 6th, 7th, or 8th house. Its exact position depends on your birth time and location. When a transiting planet activates your Vertex, you may experience a significant meeting or turning point. The Vertex is often considered a "fate point" and works like a secondary Descendant, drawing people and situations into your life that feel preordained.

In practice

In a reading, the Vertex shows where you might encounter people who change your path. Planets conjunct your Vertex can indicate the nature of these encounters. For example, Venus conjunct Vertex often brings a romantic partner who feels like "the one," while Saturn may bring a mentor or a heavy lesson. The Vertex is not a planet, so it doesn't act on its own—it becomes active when a planet or angle aligns with it.
