Feminine Signs

Feminine signs (Earth and Water) are receptive, intuitive, and nurturing. They represent inward-focused energy in astrology.

In astrology, the twelve zodiac signs are divided into two polarities: feminine (also called yin or negative) and masculine (yang or positive). Feminine signs are those belonging to the Earth and Water triplicities: Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, and Pisces. These signs are considered receptive, intuitive, and nurturing. They tend to draw energy inward, focusing on inner experience, emotional depth, and material stability. The feminine polarity is not about gender but about a quality of energy—it is about being, rather than doing.

How it works

In a natal chart, the feminine signs show where you are naturally receptive and where you process life through feelings, senses, or practicality. For example, the Moon (emotions) in a feminine sign like Cancer amplifies nurturing instincts, while Venus (love) in Taurus expresses affection through physical touch and loyalty. The houses occupied by feminine signs indicate areas of life where you prefer to receive rather than initiate. A chart with many planets in feminine signs suggests a person who is introspective, patient, and values security. The opposite polarity—masculine signs—brings action and outward expression.

In practice

When interpreting a chart, note the balance between feminine and masculine signs. A strong feminine emphasis can indicate a deeply intuitive or grounded person, but may also point to a tendency to hold back or avoid confrontation. In synastry (relationship astrology), feminine-sign planets often blend well with masculine-sign planets, creating a complementary dynamic. For instance, a partner's Mars in Aries (masculine) can energize your Venus in Pisces (feminine). Remember that everyone has both polarities in their chart—the key is how they work together.
