Mundane astrology is the branch of astrology that focuses on world events, nations, and collective human experiences. Instead of analyzing an individual's birth chart, mundane astrologers examine planetary cycles, ingresses, eclipses, and charts cast for the founding of a country, the inauguration of a leader, or a significant global event. Its goal is to understand broader societal shifts, political trends, economic cycles, and natural phenomena through an astrological lens.

How it works

Mundane astrology relies heavily on the movement of the outer planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) and the lunar nodes. For example, Saturn's transit through a sign every ~2.5 years often correlates with themes of structure, restriction, or consolidation in the regions ruled by that sign. Pluto's slow movement (12–30 years per sign) marks generational transformations. Astrologers also study ingresses (planets entering a new sign), solar and lunar eclipses, and planetary stations (when a planet appears to stop and reverse direction). A common technique is to cast a chart for the moment of a nation's independence or a capital city's founding, then track transits to that chart to predict periods of challenge or opportunity.

In practice

When interpreting a mundane chart, astrologers look at the rising sign, the Midheaven, and the placement of the Sun, Moon, and current planetary transits. For instance, a Mars-Pluto conjunction in a nation's 10th house might indicate power struggles or transformative events in government. Eclipses falling on sensitive points in a country's chart often coincide with major news events. Mundane astrology is not about predicting specific outcomes but about recognizing patterns and preparing for collective themes.
