Solar Arc

A predictive technique that moves the natal Sun one degree per year to trigger key life events.

Solar Arc is a predictive technique in astrology that advances the natal Sun (and all other planets, angles, and points) by approximately one degree for each year of life. It is used to time significant events and psychological shifts by comparing the directed planets to the natal chart.

How it works

In a Solar Arc chart, each planet’s position is calculated by adding the arc (the number of degrees the Sun has traveled since birth) to its natal degree. For example, if you are 30 years old, your Solar Arc Sun is 30° ahead of your natal Sun. The key events are triggered when a directed planet forms an exact aspect (especially conjunction, opposition, or square) to a natal planet or angle. The orb for these aspects is very tight, typically 1° or less.

In practice

When a Solar Arc planet hits a natal point, you often feel a noticeable shift in that area of life. A Solar Arc Mars conjunct natal Venus might coincide with a passionate new relationship, while Solar Arc Saturn opposing the natal Sun can bring a period of challenge or restructuring. The technique works best when combined with transits and progressions for a fuller picture.
