Anaretic Degree

The 29th degree of any zodiac sign, a point of urgency and completion before a new cycle begins.

The Anaretic Degree (also called the 29th degree) is the final degree of any zodiac sign, from 29°00′ to 29°59′. In astrology, it carries a sense of urgency, culmination, and crisis. A planet or point at this degree is said to be "pushing" to complete the sign's lessons before moving into the next. It often manifests as a feeling of being rushed, under pressure, or at a critical turning point.

How it works

In a natal chart, any planet, house cusp, or angle (like the Ascendant or Midheaven) can fall at an anaretic degree. For example, if your Sun is at 29° Aries, you may feel an intense drive to assert your identity, but also a sense that time is running out. The energy of the sign is distilled and amplified, creating a "make or break" quality. Astrologers often interpret this as a past-life completion or a need to resolve unfinished business.

In practice

When reading a chart, an anaretic degree suggests that the native is under pressure to master the sign's themes. For instance, a 29° Taurus Venus might struggle with letting go of material security, but eventually learns that true value lies beyond possessions. Transits to an anaretic point can trigger significant life changes, as the universe pushes for closure. If you have a planet at 29°, consider journaling about the sign's qualities and where you feel a sense of urgency or incompletion.

For a deeper look at your own chart, generate your natal chart and check if any planets or angles fall at 29°.
