Kite

A rare aspect pattern formed by a grand trine plus one planet opposite the apex, creating a focused release point.

A Kite is a rare and dynamic aspect pattern that builds on a Grand Trine. It consists of a Grand Trine (three planets in 120° aspects to each other, all in the same element) plus a fourth planet that sits directly opposite one of the trine's corners (the apex). This opposition creates a focused release point for the harmonious, flowing energy of the trine.

How it works

In a natal chart, the Kite looks like a diamond or kite shape. The three trine planets form a triangle, and the fourth planet (the "kite tail") opposes one of them, forming sextiles to the other two. The opposition provides tension and drive, while the sextiles offer constructive outlets. The apex planet (the one being opposed) becomes the focal point where the trine's easy energy is channeled into action or challenge.

In practice

When you encounter a Kite in a chart, the apex planet and its house/sign are key. The opposition acts as a motivator — the native feels a push to develop that area. The trine planets provide natural talents and support, but the kite tail planet often represents an external force or relationship that triggers growth. Unlike a Grand Trine, which can be too comfortable, the Kite has built-in dynamism. For example, if the apex is Mars in Aries in the 10th house, the native may channel creative energy (trine) into ambitious career moves, driven by a challenging opposition from Saturn.
