Second House
The Second House in astrology governs personal finances, material possessions, values, and self-worth.
The Second House is the area of the birth chart that deals with personal resources — money, possessions, and the things you value. It also reflects your sense of self-worth and how you build security. Unlike the Eighth House (shared resources), the Second House is about what you own and earn independently.
How it works
In a natal chart, the Second House is the house that follows the Ascendant. The sign on its cusp and any planets inside it shape your approach to finances and material stability. For example, Venus in the Second House often indicates a talent for attracting money or a love of luxury, while Saturn here may suggest financial discipline or early struggles that build long-term security. The ruler of the Second House (the planet that rules its cusp sign) also points to where your earning potential lies.
In practice
When interpreting the Second House, look at the sign on the cusp and any planets within. Aries on the cusp might mean impulsive spending but also bold earning ventures. A strong Second House suggests a person who values material comfort and uses resources to feel secure. A lack of planets doesn't mean poverty — it just means money isn't a major life theme. Transits to the Second House can trigger changes in income or spending habits.
